Primorye deputy governor detained on suspicion of fraud — source

According to unofficial information, the charges against him may be connected to allocation of financial assistance in typhoon-hit districts of the region

VLADIVOSTOK, December 21. /TASS/. A deputy governor of the Far Eastern Primorye Territory, Sergei Sidorenko, is suspected of attempted fraud, a law-enforcement source told TASS Wednesday.

"Sergei Sidorenko is suspected of fraud," the source said.

Previous reports said Sidorenko was placed under house arrest for two months.

According to unofficial information, the charges against him may be connected to allocation of financial assistance in typhoon-hit districts of the region.

Olesya Yasevich, a spokeswoman for the region’s governor, said the administration will deliver its official comment on the matter later in the day.

The regional department of the Russian Investigative Committee said it did not launch any criminal procedures against the official.

Sergei Sidorenko, who has been deputy governor since 2012, is in charge of the region’s agriculture and fisheries, veterinary control, trade in animals and licensing.
