Weapons, explosives seized from arms traffickers in Central Russia

Officers have also discovered a workshop to illegally modify firearms

TULA, December 16. /TASS/. A large batch of weapons that included an infantry mortar and nearly one hundred guns, have been seized in the Central Russian city of Tula in a joint operation by the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Russian Interior Ministry against a criminal group involved in arms trafficking.

"As a result of searches conducted at the homes of suspects and their acquaintances… the following items have been seized: a 55-mm mortar, 97 foreign and Russian-made guns, more than 150 spare parts for these firearms, over 3,500 cartridges of various caliber, five silencers and flash suppressors, 24 hand grenades, TNT, illegal drugs (cocaine, hashish, methadone)," an FSB statement reads.

Officers have also discovered a workshop to illegally modify firearms.

Three members of the group were detained while trying to illegally sell weapons, the statement reads.
