ROSTOV-ON-DON, November 23. /TASS/. Russian border guards deployed to the southern region of Rostov opened fire on the Russian-Ukrainian border when detaining smugglers, one person has been wounded, a source in the Rostov regional border office of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) told TASS.
"Two Russian citizens have been detained who tried to smuggle around 500 kilograms of food products from Ukraine into Russia using an SUV with no license plates. The border guards were forced to open fire, as a result one of the perpetrators suffered a left shin wound," the source said. He added that all the necessary medical assistance was provided to the wounded, his life was not in danger.
The border guards opened fire when the smugglers refused to obey their orders and tried to drive away to escape into Russia’s territory. They were driving recklessly posing a threat to the border guards’ safety. Administrative cases have been initiated after the smugglers were detained.
