MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Andrei Konchalovsky Oscar-nominated film, Paradise, will be released in Russia on January 19, 2017, Walt Disney Sony Studio Picture Releasing press service said in a statement.

"We’re happy to announce that the historical drama by Andrei Konchalovsky, Paradise, will be available for wide release in Russia on January 19, 2017"," the press statement said.

The black and white film tells the story of Russian emigre Olga Kamensky, a Frenchman named Jules and a German, Helmut, who ended up on opposite sides of the war, yet are bound together emotionally. There is an element of surprise in Konchalovsky’s film in how the story is told, through unexpected cinematographic language.

The leading role is played by actress Yuliya Vysotskaya, Konchalovsky’s wife, other actors include Christian Clauss, Philippe Duquesne, Viktor Sukhorukov and Peter Kurt.

The film premiered at the 73rd Venice Film Festival, where Konchalovsky was awarded Best Director.

In September, the Russian Oscar committee decided to nominate Paradise for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film is a joint Russian-German production.
