MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Italian actress Ornella Muti hasn’t applied for Russian citizenship yet, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
At the same time, he added that if such application was received, the president would consider it.
The trend for obtaining Russian citizenship emerged after French actor Gerard Depardieu first received a Russian passport on January 5, 2013. After that he was granted honorary citizenship of the Russian Republic of Udmurtia and also of the Chechen Republic. In the summer of 2015, US boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. became a Russian citizen. In autumn of the same year, US mixed martial arts expert Jeff Monson also obtained Russian citizenship. In January 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin granted the country’s citizenship to the Russian judo team’s Italian trainer Ezio Gamba. Last week, Hollywood star Steven Seagal received Russian citizenship. The media have been constantly reporting on other Western celebrities expressing their wish to become Russian citizens.
