Rescuers evacuate 15 people from house hit by gas explosion

Another 28 people were evacuated from the neighboring flats and now they are accommodated at a school nearby

MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Rescuers of the Emergencies Ministry were evacuating 15 people from the damaged flats in the multi-story residential house in the central Russian city of Ryazan, hit by gas explosion, press service of the ministry’s local branch told TASS on Sunday.

"The rescuers have evacuated 15 people, 13 of them were taken to hospital," the source said. "Two people did not require medical assistance, and three of the 15 were rescued alive from the debris."

Another 28 people were evacuated from the neighboring flats and now they are accommodated at a school nearby, where they receive everything they need, including psychological support.

No people found in debris

The search by the canine service found no people under debris of a residential house in central Russia's Ryazan, said press service of the regional branch of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

"Three canine teams have searched the debris and the damaged flats, and they say, most likely no people are there," the source said.

The debris is being cleared now. Earlier, the residents told rescuers two more people could still remain in the damaged flats.

The press service said 14 flats have been damaged in the explosion. "Eight of them were ruined and six damaged."

The explosion occurred on the ninth floor of a 10-story, two-entrance residential house built in 2013.

"Firefighters and rescuers arrived to the site immediately and began the search and rescue operation without delays," the ministry said. The work at the site continues. It features almost 200 people, most of who are staff of the Emergencies Ministry.

The emergency situation alert has been announced for the local emergency services, the ministry said.

The Emergencies Ministry reports three people died in the explosion, another 13 got injured.

"Four people have been taken to hospital, and nine people have received medical assistance on the spot," the ministry said.
