Forest fire area in Russia goes up by about 30% in past day

The fire season has been declared in 81 Russian regions

MOSCOW, September 6. /TASS/. The area of forest fires in Russia has increased by 28% in the past day, from 53 to 68 hectares, the Russian Federal Forestry Agency’s Aerial Forest Fire Center (Avialesookhrana) reported on Tuesday.

"As of midnight on September 6, 2016, nine forest fires were registered throughout Russia covering an area of 68 hectares," the center said.

The biggest area of forest fires - 41 hectares - is reported from the Siberian Krasnoyarsk Territory.

A total of 180 fire rangers took part in the fire extinguishing operations and put out fires on an area of 31 hectares. As many as 30 hectares of forests burned down during the day.

The fire season has been declared in 81 Russian regions.
