MOSCOW, August 29. /TASS/. One of two traffic police officers injured in an armed attack on a road post near Moscow in the middle of this month has died, the Sklifosovsky Emergency Medicine Institute stated.
A traffic police post located at the 20th kilometer of Shchelkovskoye highway came under attack during broad daylight on August 17. Two police officers - a captain and a lieutenant - were injured. The lieutenant was taken to the Central Clinical Hospital of the Russian Interior Ministry. He has been operated on and his condition remains moderately severe.
The other officer - a police captain - received a blow from an axe to his head. Initially, he was operated on at a hospital in the nearby suburb of Balashikha, but he was later taken to Moscow’s Sklifosovsky Emergency Institute, where he remained in grave condition. The officer succumbed to his wounds at 05:00 am on Monday.
The two attackers were shot in the incident.
A criminal investigation has been launched based on violation of article 317 of the Criminal Code - an attempt on the life of law enforcement personnel.
