Attacker of traffic police station outside Moscow dies of wounds — source

One of the attackers was shot dead at the site, the second attacker was wounded, but later died

MOSCOW, August 17. /TASS/. One of the two men who attacked a traffic police station in the township of Balashikha 20 kilometers to the east of Moscow on Wednesday, was detained and later died of gunshot wounds, police officers working on the scene have told Tass.

"One of the attackers was shot dead at the site, the second attacker was wounded, but later died at the scene of the crime," the source said.

An investigation brigade works at the site. Police look into motives behind the attack.

The attack on a traffic police station on Shchelkovskoye Highway came in the afternoon. According to early reports, the two armed men were natives of Central Asian republics. Two policemen were wounded in the attack.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted under Article 317 of the Russian Criminal Code (infringement on the life of law enforcement officers).

Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said no civilians had been injured due to professional action by police officers.
