Two police officers killed in attack in Dagestan — interior ministry

Unknown men attacked a police patrol and fled the scene on August 12

MAKHACHKALA, August 12. /TASS/. Unknown men attacked a police patrol killing two police officers in Dagestan on Friday, a spokesman for the republic’s Interior Ministry told TASS.

"The incident occurred near the town of Izberbash. The unknown men opened fire at road police officers on duty, two officers were killed. The attackers fled the scene, a search for them is underway," the spokesman said.

A search operation for the suspects is ongoing in the town and nearby areas.

On Thursday, three militants and a gang leader who had been on a federal wanted list were killed in a special operation in Dagestan, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said. A counter-terrorism regime was declared at 5.30 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday in the village of Andi in western Dagestan’s Botlikhsky district.
