MAKHACHKALA, August 11. /TASS/. Several militants have been surrounded by security forces in western Dagestan’s Botlikhsky district in a special operation, a local law enforcement source told TASS on Thursday.
"The special operation is ongoing, the shooting is underway. According to preliminary data, two or three militants have been encircled," the source said, adding that people living near the area have been evacuated.
The source confirmed that one militant has been killed. "The body of one dead militant is seen, but it is early to speak about his identity. The identification procedure will be conducted as soon as the active phase of the special operation is carried out," he said.
The counter-terrorism regime was declared at 5.30 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday in the village of Andi in the Botlikhsky district of Dagestan, in Russia’s North Caucasus. A special operation is conducted to search for suspected militants and their accomplices, a member of the operation headquarters of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said.
