Mexican rescuers search for missing Russian woman

22-year-old Regina Popova went missing in Guanajuato State in central Mexico

MEXICO CITY, July 22 /TASS/. Mexican rescuers and police failed to find 22-year-old Regina Popova, presumably a citizen of Russia, on Thursday.

She had gone missing in Guanajuato State in central Mexico. The electronic newspaper El Correo said that rescuers had used helicopters to search for the Russian. Regional prosecutors took the case under control.

"We have got this information. We are trying to get in touch with the local authorities to clarify the details," Dmitry Bolbot, the consular section chief, told TASS. The young lady disappeared near the city of Celaya on Wednesday evening (local time) or Thursday morning (Moscow time). She left home after quarrelling with her boyfriend. The newspaper said that Popova could have arrived in Mexico from the United States.

The local media have published the girl’s photo. According to her page in Facebook, Popova resides in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan.
