BERLIN, July 19. /TASS/. A man armed with an axe and a knife attacked passengers on a commuter train en route from Treuchtlingen to Wurzburg, Bavaria, on Monday night and injured no less than fifteen of them, a police spokesman told TASS.
"The incident occurred at around 21:15 (Central European Daylight Saving Time - TASS) on Monday on a commuter train bound for Wurzburg," he said. "A man, whose motives are still unclear, attacked the passengers. He was armed with an axe and a knife."
"The man is a seventeen-year-old Afghani," the spokesman said. "He managed to get out of the train and tried to get away from the police but a fighter of a special task force unit shot him dead eventually, as he put up resistance during an attempt to detain him."
"We can’t say anything about the man’s motives yet and all suppositions would be highly speculative," he said.
