Security forces clash with militants in Russia’s North Caucasus

One special forces officer was killed and three more were wounded in a counter-terrorist operation yesterday

MAKHACHKALA, July 8. /TASS/. Security forces clashed with militants in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a source in local security agencies told TASS on Friday.

"Operational activities continued in the morning in the zone of a counter-terrorist operation. When combing the area, security forces came into military contact with militants. Details are being clarified," the source said.

TASS reported earlier that the counter-terrorist operation regime was imposed yesterday at 3:30am Moscow time in Dagestan’s Karabudakhkentsky district, one serviceman of the special forces was killed and three more injured. A source in Dagestan’s security agencies told TASS that security forces liquidated main figures of Makhachkala’s gang.

Two men suspected of aiding militants were later detained in the settlement of Novy Paraul in the Karabudakhkentsky district. They were found to possess ammunition, components for making bombs and one explosive device.
