MOSCOW, June 15. /TASS/. The area of forest fires in Russia has increased by almost 40% over the past 24 hours, reaching about 16,000 hectares. More than one-third of the blazes have been recorded in the Irkutsk region, the Federal Forestry Agency’s Aerial Forest Fire Center (Avialesookhrana) reported on Wednesday.
"As of 00:00, Moscow time on June 15, 2016, there were 106 forest fire in Russia in an area of 15,989 hectares, including 23 fires in the forest reserve lands in an area of 5,997 hectares (Irkutsk region)," the report says.
The maximum forest fire area after the Irkutsk region has been recorded in the Krasnoyarsk Territory region, where 2,900 hectares of forestland are affected by blazes. In Buryatia republic, fires spread over an area of 2,200 hectares of forestland, and in the Magadan region - over 1,100 hectares.
More than 3,300 people took have been engaged in the fire extinguishing operation. Over the past 24 hours they extinguished 81 forest fires in an area of 1,300 hectares. During this time, the fire affected 5,700 hectares of forest.
A state of emergency is in effect in Buryatia republic, in the Trans-Baikal Territory, in a district of the Irkutsk region, in one district in ··the Kamchatka Territory, as well as in four districts of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
