The number of obese men in Russia has more than doubled over the past 20 years and has reached the number of obese women, Russian Health Ministry's expert said

MOSCOW, June 2 /TASS/. Russia has caught up with the United States in the number of obese people, Sergey Boitsov, a part-time expert on preventive medicine at the Russian Health Ministry, told journalists.

"We talk about a huge number of obese people in the West, especially in North America, but we have caught up with the United States in terms of obesity," Boitsov said.

According to him, obesity has stopped being an abstract problem for Russia over the past 20 years. "The number of obese men in Russia has more than doubled over the past 20 years and has reached the number of obese women," the expert explained.
