LONDON, May 5. /TASS/. Three Russian higher education establishments - the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the St. Petersburg State University and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology - have been rated among the world's top 100 universities in the World Reputation Rankings for 2016.

On Wednesday, The Times Higher Education (THE), a London-based weekly magazine specializing in news and issues related to higher education, issued its regular ranking of the top 100 most powerful global university brands.

The Lomonosov Moscow State University was ranked 30th, sharing this position with the United States’ University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Northwestern University. The university had descended its present position from its last year's 25th place.

The St. Petersburg State University was placed in a group of universities sharing positions from 81 to 90, also down from its last year’s ranking among universities sharing positions from 71 to 80.

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, a newcomer in the ranking, has won a ranking among universities sharing positions from 91 to 100.

The reputation league table is based not on subjective judgment, but on expert judgment of senior, published academics.
