SYZRAN, April 26. /TASS/. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Interior Ministry’s main department for the Samara region Andrei Gosht and his family that have been brutally murdered near Syzran, could have fallen victim to an assault by robbers, deputy head of the Samara region’s main police department Andrei Konovalov told reporters on Tuesday.

"My personal version is that they [criminals] acted for mercenary motives, it’s a robbery assault", he said.

Asked if anything has disappeared from Gosht’s house, Konovalov said that this question should be addressed to the team of investigators. He said, however, that the murder could be linked with the policeman’s professional activities. "This version is also being considered," Konovalov said. He expressed the hope that the criminals will be arrested by the weekend.

According to previous reports, a seven-year-old girl has survived the massacre of her entire family of six in a village in Russia’s Samara region in the middles reaches of the River Volga. In the morning of April 24, six persons — two men and four women — were found murdered in a private house in the village of Ivashevka in the Samara region.

One of the men was identified as Andrei Gosht, a deputy chief of the Samara region interior headquarters. The others were members of his family. Gosht and his family were attacked while sleeping and died from head trauma caused by a blunt weapon, the Investigative Committee reported.

The survivor girl, the policeman’s niece, was taken to hospital in serious condition. She had blunt abdominal trauma, a basal skull fracture, brain concussion, hemorrhagic shock of the second degree. The girl was taken to a Samara hospital, she has been operated on. The doctors currently cannot not comment on the child's condition for legal reasons.

The violent killing resembles the 2010 massacre of a policeman's family in the village of Kushchevskaya, in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region. Twelve people, including four children, were stabbed to death by a local gang in the incident.

A criminal case has been opened on charges of murder of two or more people and an attempted murder. Investigators found a mock bomb in the house. Andrei Gosht was chief of a municipal interior department in Syzran, Samara region, in 2013-2015 and was promoted to his current post in the regional interior department in 2015.

Head of the Russian Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin gave orders to refer the criminal case investigation to the Committee’s main investigation department. The Russian Interior Ministry has offered a reward of 3 million rubles for any information that will help to apprehend criminals.

Tuesday is declared a day of mourning over the policeman’s family death in Syzran and in the Syzran district.
