Death toll in Ecuador’s earthquake up to 77 - vice president

Ecuador’s Institute of Geophysics said the earthquake’s magnitude was 7.8

RIO DE JANEIRO, April 17. /TASS/. The death toll in the earthquake in Ecuador has reached 77, and another 600 got injured, the country’s Vice President Jorge Glas said on Sunday.

"By now, we have confirmed information about 77 dead, and about 588 have got injured," he said.

Ecuador’s Institute of Geophysics said the earthquake’s magnitude was 7.8.

The country’s President Rafael Correa, who is visiting Rome now, announced an emergency situation. The president is expected back to Ecuador on Sunday afternoon.
