Bear killed by police in Russian Far East after attack on woman

KHABAROVSK, March 27. /TASS/. Police in the Khabarovsk Territory in the Russian Far East shot a brown bear after the animal escaped from the cage and attacked a woman caring for him, the regional interior department reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred at the industrial base on the outskirts of Khabarovsk. By the time the police arrived, the bear had caused injuries to the woman.

"The brown bear behaved aggressively and tried to leave the territory of the base. According to preliminary estimates, the bear weighed about 180 kilograms," the regional interior department said.

The police and the hunting department in the regional government made a decision to use service arms to kill the animal.

The woman is currently receiving medical aid at a local clinic. Her health condition is not life-threating, the regional interior department said.
