BELGOROD, March 24. /TASS/. A court in the southern Russian city of Belgorod has sentenced a local doctor to nine years and two months in prison for beating a patient to death, a TASS correspondent reported from the courtroom on Thursday.
Surgeon Ilya Zelendinov will serve his term in a high-security prison, the judge said.
Closed circuit TV showing surgeon Ilya Zelendinov beating a patient over the head went viral on YouTube in early January and was broadcast by state television. The man then collapsed and died later, postmortem examination revealing that head injury caused the 56-year-old's demise.
The doctor was dismissed and arrested two weeks after the December 29 accident.
