YAKUTSK, February 24. /TASS/. Siberian fans of actor Leonardo DiCaprio, awaiting Hollywood's Oscar awards verdict on his latest blockbuster "The Revenant", have gathered 1.5 kilograms of silver to make a symbolic "Oscar" statuette for the Hollywood star.

"We have gathered near 1.5 kilograms of silver for our Oscar," those arranging the accolade in Yakutia told TASS on Wednesday.

More than 140 local women gave their silver jewelry pieces to be melted into to the "Oscar for Leo."

The metal will be cast into the shape of a man holding a Choron, the local language name for a three-legged goblet "symbolizing peace and expressing people’s love for the actor".

Gold will be melted down for the Choron and silver for the figure holding it - silver being a metal sacred to the people of Yakutia holding powers to purify and protect its owner.

"DiCaprio has been nominated for Oscar six times, but yet received no award," participants say. "So we decided to thank him for his work."

Organizers hope to hand over their award with the help of Russians living in the US.

This year's Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 28, where DiCaprio is in the line-up for a real Oscar to celebrate success for "The Revenant" on the world's silver screens.

"The Revenant" tops the Academy Awards list with 12 nominations, including citations for Best Picture and Best Actor.

DiCaprio has already won Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe best actor awards for "The Revenant."
