Far East zoo separates tiger, goat friends

The goat has gained some 20 kilogrammes since joining the tiger in his enclosure two months ago

VLADIVISTOK, January 26. /TASS/. A safari park in Russia’s Far East has decided to separate its famous inmates, Amur the tiger and Timur the goat, its director said on Tuesday.

Dmitry Mezentsev said the goat had gained some 20 kilogrammes since joining the tiger in his enclosure two months ago. "Timur’s problem is obesity, which can be harmful for his health," the director said.

"We have decided to fulfill two tasks - to carry out Timur’s veterinary checks and to keep him safe from possible changes in the male tiger’s behavior," he said, adding that Amur’s sister and neighbor Taiga had entered her mating period.

The goat will be put into a separate enclosure until the situation changes, Mezentsev said.

Amur the tiger and Timur the goat have lived alongside for more than a month. The animals have spent hours together, walking about the vast enclosure side by side.

The safari park has been publishing daily online reports about their friendship for thousands of Amur and Timur fans in Russia and abroad.
