Flu epidemic in St. Petersburg kills 15

Over the past few days, 18 people have died in Russia of various types of flu, including swine flu

ST.PETERSBURG, January 22. /TASS/. The Russian consumer rights watchdog on Friday announced a flu epidemic in Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg where the death toll has reached 15.

"Between January 11 and January 17, 2016, influenza and other acute respiratory diseases have exceeded the epidemic threshold by 30% for the entire population," the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights said in a statement.

Over the past few days, 18 people have died in Russia of various types of flu, including swine flu. The number of victims in St. Petersburg has reached 15, a source in the city’s medical community told TASS on Friday.

"According to preliminary data, the number of flu deaths in St. Petersburg has climbed to 15," the source said, adding that not all the cases have been confirmed clinically.
