PARIS, January 1. /TASS/. A Russian sailor died on Thursday off the west coast of France falling overboard the vessel, the French Atlantic Maritime Prefecture said on Friday.
According to it, the incident occurred on the Cape Mayor container ship flying the flag of the Marshall Islands when the vessel was 74 kilometers north of the French island of Ouessant. The captain informed the maritime prefecture and the sailor had fallen overboard because of the strong gust of wind. Some time later his body was discovered, efforts to save his life failed.
"The Russian sailor was spotted in the water from the Cape Mayor vessel at 20:25 Paris Time. A helicopter of the French Civil Defense was sent to the area, the victim was taken aboard. Then he was taken to the Cavale Blanche hospital in the city of Brest. The doctors could not save his life. At 21:35 he was pronounced dead," the prefecture spokesperson told TASS.
