Lake Baikal’s level again declines below extreme point

This is the second record-breaking water level decline in the Lake Baikal in several years

ULAN-UDE, December 28. /TASS/. Water level in the Lake Baikal declined to the extreme low limit of 456 meters [under the Pacific Elevation System] and dropped 0.01 m below it last weekend, Russian water resources authority said on Monday on its website.

"The level was recorded at the level of 455.99 m as of December 28. The escapage through Irkutsk waterworks amounts to 1.3 thousand cubic meters a second," the authority said.

This is the second record-breaking water level decline in the Lake Baikal in several years. The first one occurred on February 19.

The Russian government set forth the lowest and the highest water levels in the lake as 456 and 457 meters.
