MOSCOW, December 1. /TASS/. Some 90 nationalist and extremist groups are operating on Russia’s territory, Russian Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov told the upper house of parliament, the Federation Council, on Tuesday.
"Currently, around 90 nationalist and extremist groups with more than 600 members have been uncovered on Russia’s territory," Zubov said.
Over the past 10 months, more than 750 extremism-related crimes have been detected, an almost 25% increase compared with the same period of last year, he said.
This year, Russia’s Interior Ministry has managed to avert more than 100 conflicts that could increase inter-ethnic tensions and provoke mass disorders, he said.
"The threat to national security remains topical for Russia where several million labor migrants from neighboring states are staying and one sixth of the population are Muslims," he said.
