"Search and rescue helicopters will evacuate the plots as soon as the weather improves", the Defense Ministry said

MOSCOW, October 31. /TASS/. An Ilyushin-38 anti-submarine plane involved in a search and rescue operation in the Far East has spotted the crew of the missing MiG-31 jet. It picked up a signal from the distress radio beacon, the Defense Ministry’s press and information department has told TASS.

"The crew of the Ilyushin-38 plane saw the pilots, the parachutes and the signal campfire on the ground," the Defense Ministry said. "Search and rescue helicopters will evacuate the plots as soon as the weather improves."

The MiG-31 plane of the Eastern Military District disappeared from radar screens at 18:38 Moscow time on Friday while returning to base in the Kamchatka Territory after a routine training flight.

It is a two-seat supersonic long-range interceptor meant for attacking any air targets round the clock in any weather.
