Powerful cyclone interrupts flights in Russia’s Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, October 26. /TASS/. Air service has been interrupted between settlements in Russia's Kamchatka as a powerful cyclone struck the Far Eastern peninsula, the airport’s dispatch office in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky said on Monday.

The cyclone started affecting Kamchatka overnight to Monday. Between 90 to 150% of average monthly precipitation fell out in Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky and Yelizovsky district.

The cyclone has caused power outage to around 50,000 people.

Traffic has been also blocked in the capital of the peninsula, Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky, due to giant puddles and mudflows. Local authorities have stepped up efforts to deal with the disaster.
