Helicopter searches for capsized vessel’s crew in Russian Far East

A total of 210 people are taking part in the rescue operation

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, October 18 /TASS/. A helicopter with Russian Emergencies Ministry rescuers onboard has started searching for survivors of the Paramushir self-propelled cargo vessel, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry far eastern regional center said.

The Paramushir self-propelled cargo vessel capsized that headed from Severo-Kurilsk to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was found capsized by the passing Aldan ship six kilometers away from the Kuril Island of Shumshu on October 17.

The Aldan ship’s crew found one survivor on an inflatable rescue raft.

He has been delivered to hospital in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. His life is out of danger, the Emergencies Ministry Kamchatka branch said.

A ship with divers is expected to arrive at the wreck site at 19:00 Khabarovsk time (12:00 Moscow time) on Sunday.

A total of 210 people are taking part in the rescue operation.
