Local lawmaker killed in Russia’s Tver region

Officers from the Investigative Committee and police are working at the site, no further details are available as of yet

TVER, September 23./TASS/. A lawmaker from the legislative assembly of the Tver region in northwestern Russia has been found dead, a law enforcement agency source has told TASS.

"The body of [Nikolay] Popov with a gunshot wound was found in the morning on the outskirts of Spas village in the Torzshok district," the source said.

No other details have been available as of yet. Officers from the Investigative Committee and police are working at the site.

Popov was a deputy of the regional legislative assembly and a member of the committee for agrarian policy, management of natural resources and property. He was member of the United Russia Party and led Mir collective farm in the Torzhok district.

He had two awards — the Order of Merit for the Fatherland and the Order of Badge of Honor. Popov was an honorary citizen of the Tver region.
