ST. PETERSBURG, September 15. /TASS/. The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second city, has been ranked sixth on the 2015 list of the world’s best museums, published on Tuesday by travel websiteTripAdvisor.
Twenty-five winners were selected from among 591 museums worldwide, TripAdvisor said. The Metropolitan Museum in New York City took first place.
Other museums in the top 10 are the Orsay in Paris, Art Institute of Chicago, the Prado of Madrid, the Louvre in Paris, the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the National Gallery of London, Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Vasa in Stockholm and the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
The Hermitage and Winter Palace, a former residence of Russian emperors, have been ranked Russia’s best, followed by the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, both having the world’s largest collections of Russian art.
Ranking is based on millions of reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travellers.
