Russia implements stricter rules on foreigners, limits them to 90 days' stay per year

The Interior Ministry spokesperson said that rules of controlled stay would be applied to certain categories of foreign nationals

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. Russia’s Interior Ministry has drawn up a bill on migration policy, creating legal grounds for the biometric identification of foreign nationals entering Russia and reducing the amount of time they can stay in the country temporarily to 90 days a year, ministry spokesperson Irina Volk said.

"The bill establishes legal grounds for the introduction of biometric identification of foreign nationals entering Russia and reduces the period of their temporary stay to 90 days a year," she wrote on Telegram.

Until recently, foreign citizens could temporarily stay in Russia for 90 days every six months.

In addition, Volk said that rules of controlled stay would be applied to certain categories of foreign nationals. Besides, the government will tighten control over employers and contractors recruiting foreign workers, as well as over extrajudicial restrictions of the rights of illegal migrants. Government agencies, organizations, individuals and entities will be banned from providing any services to those violating migration laws. Other decisions will also be made in order to streamline foreign nationals’ stay in Russia.
