Nazarbayev was discharged from the hospital as his condition had stabilized, the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center said

ASTANA, January 24. /TASS/. Kazakhstan’s first President Nursultan Nazarbayev was discharged from the National Research Cardiac Surgery Center in Astana following elective heart surgery, local medics told TASS on Tuesday.

Nazarbayev "was discharged [from the hospital] as his condition had stabilized," the medics said.

On January 20, Nazarbayev’s spokesman Aidos Ukibay said that Kazakhstan’s first president had undergone heart surgery, and that the operation was successful.

Nazarbayev, 82, served as the first President of Kazakhstan in 1991-2019. In March 2019, he signed a decree stepping down as president. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev succeeded Nazarbayev as head of state.
