G20 states reaffirm commitment to fight against irregular migration

The adoption of the joint declaration was the main intrigue of the two-day summit of G20 nations that took place on the Indonesian island of Bali

BALI /Indonesia/, November 16. /TASS/. The leaders of G20 nations have reaffirmed the commitment to the fight against irregular migration, according to their joint declaration approved on Wednesday following the Bali-hosted summit.

"We also recognize the importance of preventing irregular migration flows and the smuggling of migrants, as part of a comprehensive approach for safe, orderly and regular migration, while responding to humanitarian needs and the root causes of displacement," the document reads.

The adoption of the joint declaration was the main intrigue of the two-day summit of G20 nations that took place on the Indonesian island of Bali. Until the last moment, it was not guaranteed that the final text would be approved. Numerous sources close to the talks noted that Indonesian President Joko Widodo personally worked hard to ensure that the summit would end with the adoption of the final document.
