More than 20,000 trees to be planted on Yamal in Year of Ecology

All the plants will be adapted to the Far North conditions, the regional government informed

TASS, May 19. The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region will plant more than 20,000 trees in parks and along streets in 2022, the regional government’s press service said on Thursday.

"In the Year of Ecology, Governor Dmitry Artyukhov has announced on the Yamal, more than 20,000 trees will decorate northern cities and towns. In parks, in kindergartens and streets would be planted firs, larches, birches, mountain ash, maples and other plants," the regional government said in a release, adding all the plants would be adapted to the Far North conditions.

The leading districts in planting trees would be the Purovsky, Nadymsky and Yamalsky districts. Activists in the Purovsky District will plant almost three times more trees than they did a year earlier. Many trees and plants will appear also in Yamal’s far-away settlements.

Trees, untypical for the Northern latitudes, will appear in Yar-Sale - they will be planted by Yamal’s specialists jointly with scientists of the Urals University’s Botanical Garden. Additionally, 200 cold tolerant perennial flowers will be planted on the Yamal.
