Diplomat cautions against attempts to launch cyberattacks against Russia

Andrey Krutskikhalso expressed concerns over the situation in the world when the states can be set against each other against their will through the use of cyberspace

MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. Moscow will not tolerate threats and will respond to any cyberattack, Russian president’s special representative for international cooperation on information security, Andrey Krutskikh, said in an interview with the International Affairs magazine on Tuesday.

"Practically everything in the cyber world is done through private military companies. ... However, certain ministers in the US have started intimidating the world of late and bragging that they would carry out certain cyber operations even against Russia. I want to believe that this is a political, irresponsible foppery," he said.

"All political activists must understand that every action will entail counter-action," the ambassador of the Russian Foreign Ministry said. "And the country like Russia will not tolerate any damage and will not allow any attack against itself. As it is said ‘all who come to us with the sword, a cyber sword, by the sword will perish’," the diplomat said, cautioning against these attempts to intimidate Russia.

He also expressed concerns over the situation in the world when the states can be set against each other against their will through the use of cyberspace.

The international community needs "rules of the game and common approaches" in regulating the cyber space. "A diplomatic, political conversation is needed," the ambassador summed up.
