Singer Lazarev is ready for partiality at Eurovision

Sergey Lazarev was ranked third at the 2016 contest with his song You Are The Only One, whereas he occupied the first position in the viewers’ voting

MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. Singer Sergey Lazarev is ready that his performance at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 will be assessed partially, the way it happened during his participation in the contest in 2016. He told journalists about it on Tuesday.

Lazarev was ranked third at the 2016 contest with his song You Are The Only One, whereas he occupied the first position in the viewers’ voting.

"It happened so in 2016, when the audience considered our performance, our song, our country to be the best in the contest and placed us first; we had not a single zero point from the TV viewers. Still, the jury in 23 states gave us zero points. It is obviously strange. However, we did not pick a fight and did not write any petitions," Lazarev said, answering the question about the possibility of a biased approach.

Lazarev’s producer and singer Philipp Kirkorov reiterated that in 2016 even Ukraine’s viewers gave 12 points to the singer while this country’s jury did not award him any points. Still, he noted that, unlike the previous performance at Eurovision, Lazarev will perform "a serious composition" this time.

"I still believe in the objectivity of the jury, who will not have the heart to react to such a beautiful and serious composition with no points, just ignoring it," Kirkorov said.

The Eurovision Semi Finals will be carried out in Tel Aviv on May 14 and 16, 2019.
