Average life expectancy in Russia rose to 73 years in 2018 — expert

The geriatrician said that life expectancy in Russia had risen by 0.8% in a year

MOSCOW, March 20. /TASS/. Average life expectancy exceeded 73 years in Russia in 2018, Olga Tkacheva, head of the Russian Gerontological Research and Clinical Center, told reporters on Wednesday.

"More than 73 years. To my mind, 73.1," the geriatrician said answering a corresponding question.

"You know that the objective is 78 years by 2024. It is a very serious task and the task should be solved in all age groups: mortality should be reduced among infants, middle-aged and elderly [people]," Tkacheva said. "We should embark on prevention at all fronts to solve the task quickly."

The geriatrician added that life expectancy in Russia had risen by 0.8% in a year.
