People make biggest contribution to maintaining their own health, says Russian minister

It is possible to increase the life expectancy to over 80 years in the next 12 years by raising the life expectancy of people of all age groups, Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said

SOCHI, February 13. /TASS/. People themselves can make the biggest contribution to maintaining their health, however, certain conditions for this must be created, Russian Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova stated during the plenary session of the "Healthy Life Forum: Towards 80+" within the framework of the Russian Investment Forum 2019 in Sochi.

"People themselves make the biggest contribution to maintaining their health, but they need to be informed and motivated, that is, have an emotional and motivational basis. Besides, they must find themselves in the conditions to follow a healthy lifestyle," the minister explained.

According to her, it is possible to increase the life expectancy to over 80 years in the next 12 years by raising the life expectancy of people of all age groups. "It is only possible to raise the life expectancy if we steadily increase the duration of all periods of life: childhood, youth, adulthood, and, of course, the senior age groups," the minister told reporters.

Within the Russian national project "Demography", the Russian health minister will hold informational campaigns on spreading awareness and motivation people to choose a healthy lifestyle. Psychologists and other experts developed the campaigns in such a way that the information would not cause alienation among the targeted groups.

The "Healthy Life Forum: Towards 80+" is held in Sochi for the first time within the framework of the Russian Investment Forum. The forum is planned to become an annual platform for discussion of methods to achieve the outlined life expectancy goals: 78 years by 2024 and 80 years by 2030.

The Russian Investment Forum will take place in Sochi on February 14-15. February 13 is the so-called "zero day", during which the delegations arrive in Sochi. The main topic of this year’s forum is the realization of national projects. The Roscongress Foundation acts as the forum’s organizer.
