Venezuela thanks Russia for support in current situation

Venezuela’s ambassador in Moscow Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa said that "our people, our government and our President Nicolas Maduro are very grateful to you and the Russian government"

MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. The leadership and people of Venezuela are grateful to Russia for support in the current situation and are firmly opposed to outside interference, Venezuela’s ambassador in Moscow Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa said at a meeting of the working group of the Federation Council’s temporary commission for the protection of state sovereignty and prevention of interference in Russia’s internal affairs.

"You protect our country. Objectively you stand for the Constitution and are opposed to interference. Our people, our government and our President Nicolas Maduro are very grateful to you and the Russian government," Tortosa said.

On January 23, Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido whose appointment as parliamentary speaker was annulled by the Supreme Court two days later, proclaimed himself as acting president. The United States recognized him on the same day. Venezuela’s legitimate President Nicolas Maduro described the events as a government coup attempt. Russia, Belarus, Bolivia, Iran, China, Cuba, Nicaragua, Salvador, Syria and Turkey came out in his support.
