"Carrey saw the Master and Margarita musical at the LDM Theater. The talks we have been holding for a long time are now in their final stage. We hope to sign [a contract] before the end of February, so he will perform at our theater," Afanasyeva said.
Carrey is supposed to play one of the main characters, Voland, the producer elaborated, adding that details of the talks were not meant for public consumption.
"The Americans asked us not to make any information public before a contract is signed," she noted.
The LDM New Stage Theater, located in the historic section of St. Petersburg, reopened after getting a facelift in October 2017. Before that, it had been called the Leningrad Youth Palace. The theater’s website says the site has a spectator seating capacity of 1,200.
