MOSCOW, February 6. /TASS/. In a unique revelation, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that previously he had felt very uneasy when he was bombarded with criticism but now he treats it with humor as he was ‘on a good footing with the law.’
During the Media Day forum organized by the Kommersant Publishing House, Peskov was asked about his reaction to ‘compromising material’ against him personally having surfaced, for example, about an expensive watch his wife, Olympic Champion Tatyana Navka, had given him as a present. To that end, the Kremlin spokesman replied, "It would be silly to say that I don’t feel upset or that I’m indifferent to that."
"Like all people, I get upset, but eventually you become thick-skinned and less vulnerable," he noted.
In Peskov’s opinion, "As a rule, compromising material or campaigns are sometimes thoroughly fair, and at times these campaigns are conducted to conjure up [compromising material] and occasionally there are skillfully compiled materials where there seem to be things that are correct but they are stitched together in such a way that it turns out to be a hit piece, and just plain dirt."
"Now I have learnt to treat this with humor," Peskov stressed.
"What’s crucial here is that when some compromising material against you emerges, it is important that you feel that you are a law-abiding individual and that you are not violating anything, so if that’s the case, you’ll toughen up and treat this with humor," Peskov explained.
As the Kremlin spokesman believes, "if you are at odds with law and there are attempts to expose you or expose something illegal, then, of course, this is a reason for some serious anxiety."
The Kremlin spokesman also did not rule out that the campaign against him might continue.
