According to the Russian Interior ministry, to date, there are 9.7 million foreign citizens on Russian territory

MOSCOW, January 25. /TASS/. About 10 million foreign citizens are staying on Russia’s territory this year, acting head of the Russian Interior Ministry’s Migration Department Valentina Kazakova told journalists, noting that their number increased by 500,000 in 2019.

"The migration situation remains stable. There are 9.7 million foreign citizens as of January 1 on Russian territory, and this figure increased by almost 500,000 as compared to the previous year," she said.

She noted that citizens from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) make up the main migration flow, and the main reasons of entry to Russian territory are personal trips or hired labor. "Citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan make up the main flow of labor migrants. More than half of all labor migrants were staying in Moscow, the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and the Rostov Region," Kazakova said.
