Eleven members of IS cells that plotted terror attacks arrested in Moscow

The Russian Federal Security Service noted that the verdict was announced on January 23

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Moscow District Military Court has sentenced 11 Central Asian nationals who are members of the terrorist organization Islamic State (outlawed in Russia) to six to 18 years of imprisonment. The Center for Public Relations of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) told TASS that "the specified persons in two terrorist cells were simultaneously detained by FSB employees on November 12, 2016, in Moscow and St. Petersburg."

"The terrorists, one of whom came from Syria, planned to carry out terror attacks, as well as mass murders of citizens in crowded places. They were going to capture all attacks on video for further release on Internet resources controlled by them," the Center for Public Relations reported.

The FSB noted that the verdict was announced on January 23. "Under the investigation into the criminal cases launched by the FSB’s investigative directorate, their guilt in plotting terror attacks, participation in terrorist societies and organizations, training for terrorist purposes and the illegal storage of arms and explosive devices was fully proved," the FSB noted.

"Six terrorists were convicted for a term of 14 to 18 years, the rest were convicted to six years of imprisonment," the FSB added.
