Russian large anti-submarine ship enters Pakistan’s port of Karachi

A group of ships of the Northern Fleet's visit will last a few days

MURMANSK, November 27. /TASS/. A group of ships of the Northern Fleet led by the Severomorsk large anti-submarine ship entered the port of Karachi in Pakistan while implementing its long-voyage tasks, the fleet’s press service reported on Tuesday.

"The program of the unofficial visit, that will last a few days, includes social events with participation of the command of the group of the Northern Fleet ships and the command of the Pakistan Navy, and the attendance by the Russian sailors of the international exhibition of weapons and military equipment IDEAS-2018," the press service reported.

During anchorage at the port of Karachi the Russian large anti-submarine ship will also replenish fuel, water and food supplies. The crew will have a short rest ashore and visit local places of interest.

It is not the first visit of Russian sailors to the port of Karachi. Earlier, the Vice Admiral Kulakov large-anti submarine ship of the Northern Fleet entered this Pakistani port in 2015 and then took part in international anti-drug drills.

The large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk has been operating in the Indian Ocean since the second half of September. The ship has been on a long voyage since July 5, 2018, when it left its home base in Severomorsk. It has covered about 26,000 nautical miles, performed a number of military-diplomatic tasks and visited the ports of Alger, Pemba, Antsiranana and Djibouti, as well as addressed tasks of anti-piracy activity in the area of the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
