Russian youth agency head delivers gift for North Korean leader

The Horn of Amalthea, "symbolizes hospitality and amiability typical especially for the south of Russia and the Caucasus", the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang stated

PYONGYANG, November 19. /TASS/. The head of the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Alexander Bugayev, has delivered a gift for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, a diplomat from the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang told TASS on Monday.

He said the gift, the Horn of Amalthea, "symbolizes hospitality and amiability typical especially for the south of Russia and the Caucasus".

"The horn is placed on the head of an elk, which is the symbol of Russia’s interminable forests. The gift is decorated with miniatures featuring hunting - an ancient Russian national pastime, symbolizing the spirit of collectivism," he explained.

The diplomat said Bugayev had handed over the gift for the North Korean leader during talks with Vice President of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly Kim Yong-dae on Monday.

Expanding bilateral cooperation

A delegation of the Russian Federal Agency for Youth Affairs held a number of talks with representatives of the North Korean leadership to discuss ways to boost cooperation between Russia and North Korea in terms of youth exchange programs.

Relations between the two countries have been actively developing of late. Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev visited Pyongyang earlier in the year.

The upper house speaker held talks with Kim Jong-un and handed over to him a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The North Korean leader expressed readiness to visit Moscow to meet with the Russian president.
