Russia, US to continue talks on humanitarian cooperation in November, says envoy

Excibit exchanges between Russia and the US were suspended in 2010

ST. PETERSBURG, November 15. /TASS/. Diplomats and lawyers from the Russian Foreign Ministry will visit the United States in November to continue talks on humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi told TASS at the Seventh St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum on Thursday.

Museum exchanges between Russia and the US were suspended in 2010 over the so-called Schneerson Library case. The exhibit exchange process between the two countries almost came to a halt as Russian museums had to stop participating in exhibitions taking place in the US due to lack of protection from third parties’ claims. US museums responded in kind.

"In mid-November, a group of experts from the Russian Foreign Ministry is expected to visit the United States. The group includes lawyers and diplomats. The aim is to continue talks on the entire range of issues concerning our humanitarian ties with the US," Shvydkoi said.

He pointed out that apart from museum exchanges, the talks’ agenda would also include the Russian America project and a number of other humanitarian issues.
