Most Russian employers believe staff aged 35-50 are most reliable — poll

Most Russian employers believe that hired middle-aged personnel are the most reliable

MOSCOW, November 7. /TASS/. Most Russian employers believe that hired middle-aged personnel are the most reliable, as follows from a poll conducted by the job portal Zarplata.ru.

"Russian employers say that hired staffers aged 35-50 are the most reliable employees. At the same time more than 60% of companies’ recruiters never stop to think about age while looking for potential candidates for filling vacancies," the poll says.

X and Y generations

One in four respondents has never heard about the XYZ generations theory that demonstrates the merits and behavioral stereotypes of different generations: 61% know that such a theory does exist but they do not use it while looking for potential employees, and 14% of Russian employers always plan in advance what generation they would like to hire a staffer from.

"One-third (32%) of the respondents are certain that X generation employees (those aged 35 to 50) are the most reliable ones. Only 3% of employers think so about pre-retirement age people, and 6% prefer to stake on youth (under 35 years of age - generation Y). Two-thirds (59%) of Russian companies’ representatives are certain that the generation factor does not matter, while personal qualities and character are essential," the poll says.

In their comments on each generation separately most job-givers (64%) said that generation X is the most industrious and enduring; 24% disagreed with this, because their own personal experience proved the reverse, and 12% have never had a chance to use generation X staffers.

More than two-thirds (67%) of employers agree with the theory’s postulate that generation Y have exaggerated job expectations and an unreasonably inflated opinion of themselves. One-third replied this is a delusion, while 2% have never had a chance to try the real worth of employees under 35 years of age.

Generation Z

Polled employers also offered their forecasts regarding generation Z (born in the early 2000s), whom experts have already labeled as lacking initiative and requiring supervision. According to 41% of the respondents, it is already clear that this forecast is correct, while 14% disagree with this, and 45% believe it is too early to judge the skills of this generation.

"An ideal company is the one where all three generations are represented equally in the staff structure. Very soon generation Z will join the army of job seekers and employers should not be afraid of hiring them on the suspicion they are potentially irresponsible and light-minded. First and foremost they are people who have grown up and matured in a world of modern technologies. This allows them for taking a broader look at standard tasks and for paying more attention to the speed of doing the job right," the head of the Branding and PR department at the Zarplata.ru job portal, Ivan Chirkov said. On October 30 through November 6 the portal questioned an audience of 6,400 employers in Russia.
