MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Russian military expert Vladimir Neyelov, who has been arrested on suspicion of high treason, is being kept at Moscow’s Lefortovo pre-trial facility, Yevgeny Yenikeyev, a member of Moscow’s Public Monitoring Commission, told TASS on Friday.
"We confirm that Neyelov is being kept at the Lefortovo pre-trial facility. We will try to visit him as soon as possible," he said, refraining from further comments.
According to earlier reports, Moscow’s Lefortovo District Court on October 26 ruled to place Neyelov in custody on charges of high treason (Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code). According to a source close to the investigation, the man, Vladimir Neyelov, an expert at the Center of Strategic Conjunctures, known for his commentaries on the activities of private military companies, has been leaking top secret information abroad. He is facing a term of 20 years behind bars. The case is classified as confidential. The court was unavailable for comment.
Meanwhile, Ivan Konovalov, director of the Center of Strategic Conunctures, refused to comment on Neyelov’s arrest.
According to open sources, Vladimir Neyelov graduated from the St. Petersburg State University, with a degree in international relations. His sphere of interest include private military companies, state-of-the-art warfare, military doctrines and strategies.
